Setting up a social area in Reading

I needed a bespoke home bar after click here hosting a gathering where we lacked space. I decided to look near Forbury Gardens.

I found the site while scrolling and emailed photos. Central Bedroom and Kitchens responded with a quote that felt right for the work.

The process of organising this renovation was actually quite involved. I spent many hours thinking on the layout of the room before even choosing up the phone. My lounge area has always felt a bit incomplete, and having a proper area for drinks felt like the ideal solution to that issue. I recall sitting in my kitchen looking at a messy countertop covered with bottles and realising that something had to shift. The initial conversation with the team was very simple, which gave me assurance. We talked various aesthetics, from contemporary minimalist designs to more traditional and wooden finishes. I was really impressed by how much information they requested about the dimensions and the current decor of my house. It felt like they genuinely desired the finished product to match perfectly with the balance of the building. I offered various angles in the photos I sent, making sure every nook was visible. They explained that the custom nature of the unit meant that accuracy was entirely paramount to prevent any problems throughout the fitting. We moved forth and forth on possible materials, looking at samples of quartz and various types of wood grain. It is amazing how much consideration goes into picking the right handles, like knobs and fittings, which could totally alter the vibe of the whole construction. I wanted a space where I could easily mix cocktails for friends without having to constantly dash back to the kitchen for ice or glasses. The convenience of possessing everything in a single place was the main driver for this purchase. We settled the design following a brief consultation where all my questions about plumbing and electric sockets were addressed. I appreciated that they didn't rush the planning stage, spending the effort to make sure that the depth of the racks was enough for my largest glassware. It seemed like a joint process rather than a standard sale, which is hard to locate these days.

The installation day arrived sooner than anticipated, and the fitter was punctual and ready. He began by placing down safety covers to make sure my carpet remained clean. Watching the components being unloaded was fascinating, as the standard of the wood was immediately obvious. He carefully checked the levels of the floor before attaching the main structure of the unit. I observed as the structure gradually gained shape, changing a plain corner into a practical piece. The level of skill involved in scribing the panels to the uneven surfaces of my period home was notable. He explained why each section fitted in to provide maximum stability. We wasted a little duration deciding on the exact height for the built-in cooler, making sure it was accessible to reach but hidden away from main view. The installation of the counter was the highly rewarding moment of the whole day. Seeing the smooth top at last sitting on the base made the project come real. He then fitted the mirrored backsplash, which immediately caused the room to look double the breadth. The LEDs were connected afterward, and checking them for the first moment was a thrill. The soft glow below the shelves showcased the bottles perfectly. I was able to visualise precisely how useful this might be during evening parties. The fitter was very careful, spending the effort to clean down every surface and clear any debris created during the cutting. He also demonstrated me the way to adjust the shelves if I ever wanted to store bigger items. The attention to detail was really great, straight down to the silicone beads along the joins. It was clear that he took immense pride in his work, which is always good to see. We conducted a last walkthrough of the finished work to ensure everything was to standard. I observed that a single knob was a bit wobbly, and he tightened it straight away with a quick twist of a tool. This thoroughness is exactly what I was hoping for when I arranged the job.

The finished bar looks completely stunning and has turned into the main point of my home. It offers a sophisticated feel that was formerly missing from my living space. The storage is immense, enabling me to sort all my liquors, sodas, and specialist glasses in one unified place. No longer do I have to rummage inside cramped cupboard cabinets to find a corkscrew or a certain type of glass. Everything has its proper place, which renders hosting so much easier and stress-free. I love the way the finishes reflect the light in the afternoons, making a inviting ambience. My friends have already praised the setup several times, with some actually asking for the details of the company who made it. It really feels like a bespoke extra tailored specifically for my needs. The elevation of the countertop is ideal for standing by with a drink, and the built-in lighting units offer just the right amount of glow without being overpowering. Even when not in operation, it serves as a beautiful piece of furniture that lifts the whole aesthetic of the house. I used some time placing my collection on the racks to make a visual arrangement. The mirrored panels really assist in displaying the bottles and giving depth to the small space. It has encouraged me to try creating new cocktails that I before thought were too complicated to attempt in a standard setting. Having the tap close would have been good, but the area constraints meant we decided against it to preserve storage space. This was a conscious choice we made during the planning stage, and I do not rue it. The extra drawer space for straws and accessories is far more useful to me in the long term.

There were a few of small drawbacks that are worth mentioning for a honest view. The wait time for the custom panels was a little slower than I originally wanted. It took about six days from the initial deposit to the final fitting date. While this is expected for high-quality work, it required a bit of waiting on my part. I had wanted to have it ready for a specific event, but we passed that date by a week. However, the updates from the office regarding the progress was regular, so I was not left in the unknowing. I would wait a little longer for a product that is built to endure than receive a rushed job that breaks after a couple months. The initial price estimate was additionally slightly lower than the final bill, mostly because I decided to upgrade the handles and add extra inside lighting midway during the process. These changes were entirely my choice, and the team was extremely clear about the additional fees required. Another small issue was the volume of packaging remaining following the install. Although the worker tidied up the work site well, there was a significant amount of cardboard to get rid of in my recycling. It was not a huge deal, but a thing to keep in mind if you possess little waste space. Despite these minor details, the overall journey was vastly positive. The standard of the fit is far better to anything I could have bought from a shop. It feels solid and durable, and I am sure it will handle decades of use. I believe the worth it has added to my home well exceeds the initial outlay. It has changed the way I use my downstairs space, rendering it much more social. I not longer sense cramped when friends come over.

Thinking back on the whole experience, I am really glad I opted ahead with it. The first spark came from a trip to a friend's house in Oxford, where they had a similar bar. I saw then how greatly it improved the flow of the evening. When I returned to Reading, I began researching nearby options and discovered that working with a bespoke outfit was the best way to get the exact look I wanted. The chance to pick every element, from the colour of the paint to the placement of the power outlets, ensured the final product was just as I pictured. I even got a small hidden drawer built for keeping valuable items like fancy stirrers. This level of customisation is what renders the experience special. It didn't feel like a mass-produced item being fitted into a space where it did not belong. Instead, it looks like it has always been a segment of the architecture. If you are considering a similar home improvement, my advice would be to remain calm and invest the effort on the planning part. It is far better to change a sketch than it is to modify a unit once it is built. The expertise provided during the beginning was invaluable in stopping me from doing simple mistakes, such as putting the fridge too near to a radiator. These small bits of advice are what you buy for when you choose skilled experts. I am now looking at different areas of my home to see where else I could add fitted solutions. The success of this fitted project has provided me the drive to start a larger renovation in the bedroom later season. It has been a great addition to my life, and I look forward to numerous years of enjoying it with family and friends. Finding the proper balance between looks and function was the aim, and I feel we reached it perfectly. The journey from a cluttered corner to a sleek hosting hub was well deserving the time and money required. I today have a space that I am really happy to show off to visitors. Reading has many great places to go for a cocktail, but honestly, I now prefer staying at home and using my own private setup. It offers the identical feel without the noise or the travel. That itself is deserving the whole project. I am so pleased with how the lighting works in the night, providing a chill space to unwind after a busy shift at the office. It is the little luxuries like this that make home life much rewarding and fulfilling. I really value the workmanship that was put into the finished product. The way the doors close with a silent thud tells plenty about the build level. No aspect was overlooked, and the total appearance is exactly what I hoped it would be when I originally started this adventure. It is a testament to the skill of the team and the quality of the materials used. I am a truly happy client.
